There’s something about a printed piece that can’t be duplicated in a website or email. “Ultimately the collateral piece is the door that gets the prospect to call, to speak to a person and form a relationship,” says Sandra DeMond, director of marketing at Chatsworth, CA-based Creative Technology. But how to create an effective brochure?

Read Brochures for AV Pros, Don’s April column for ProAV Magazine. Marketing managers from staging firm Creative Technology, manufacturers Acoustic Innovations and LIberty Wire and Cable, AV consultant Kirkegaard Associates, and integrator AVI Tampa offer their views on setting goals, creating an effective message, getting it across with appropriate copy, graphics and printing, then measuring results.

“It’s your face to the public,” says Acoustic Innovation’s Rick Schuett. “It’s worth a substantial investment of time and money.” Read more.

A traditional printed
brochure is not always best. Marketing research leader Pacific Media Associates asked us to design their new brochure in Word format, so that:

They could add new product and service descriptions on their own
They could send it easily via e-mail.
The piece would work internationally, formatting automatically to US and A4 papers.

If you’re hesitant about investing in
a magazine advertising campaign, consider the experience of keyboard manufacturer Wireless Computing.

Their new High Security campaign is “seriously attention-getting,” according to CEO Martin Phillips.
The campaign succinctly conveys the advantages of encrypted keyboards.
Web traffic and sales have grown steadily since the campaign began.

We’re developing a new, 100 page website for Lewis Sound & Video:

Based on photos of 37 customer installations, the site demonstrates the quality of this contractor’s work.
The images put a key marketing principal into action: you need to show, not just tell, how you differ from competitors.
